Black Life at Swarthmore
Black at Swarthmore is a viewbook aimed at recruiting black high-school students, created by SASS member Don Mizell ('71) and printed by the Swarthmore College Bulletin in 1969, 1970 and 1973.
This exhibit documents black life at Swarthmore through photographs. In these years, black students started a Black Dance Troupe and a Black Gospel Choir, in addition to participating in other College activities. The photographs in this exhibit show black students taking part in a range of activities as well as in daily life – in the dining hall, about campus, or walking to class – to give depth to black student experiences at the time.
