Swarthmore and the Rockefeller Fund
Swarthmore was one of many Colleges that received a grant from the Rockefeller Fund to increase black enrollment. The grant was intended to provide scholarships for black students in addition to the financial support that Swarthmore was already providing. This exhibit contains the Rockefeller Report from 1964 explaining the purpose of the allocated money, an op-ed by Clinton Etheridge and Don Mizell questioning the College’s use of the funds, and a College document explaining how the funds were allocated.
